NEW FEATURE

A trio of spectacled caimans, one of South America's most common crocodiles, have taken up residence at the Sea Life Centre this year.

Though still youngsters at present, the three new arrivals could eventually grow to over two meters.

Dining on a wide variety of fish, spectacled caimans have  thrived because their skin is not suitable for the tanning industry, and they have spread out to fill the gaps left by other over-hunted species whose skins are more sought after. They get their name from a bony ridge between their eyes that makes it look like they are wearing spectacles.
